40ft Non-Operating Reefer (NOR) Container
A reefer with the refrigeration retired. You keep the insulation, the stainless interior and the sealed construction — and pay nothing to run it.
The best-kept secret in container storage
When a refrigeration unit reaches the end of its economic life, the container around it is usually still excellent. Those units become NORs — non-operating reefers — and they are one of the genuinely smart buys in this industry.
What you get: heavy insulation in the walls, floor and ceiling, a stainless or aluminium lined interior, a T-bar floor, and door seals built to a much higher standard than a general purpose container. What you do not get: refrigeration, and therefore no power requirement and no running cost.
Why the insulation matters even without cooling
A standard steel container in the Australian sun becomes an oven, and then condensates heavily overnight. A NOR stays dramatically closer to ambient and sweats far less. For storing anything that dislikes heat cycling — electronics, chemicals, documents, adhesives, timber, wine — the difference is significant.
Popular uses
Dry goods storage. Workshop conversions, because it is already insulated. Gyms and studios. Server and equipment rooms with separate cooling. Archive storage.
What to check
The lining and insulation are the asset, so panel damage matters more than exterior paint. We will describe interior condition honestly when you enquire.
A non operating reefer container is the most underrated buy on our yard: reefer-grade insulation and sealing, no compressor, no power bill.
