Amenities are an obligation, not a courtesy

Australian workplace health and safety law requires employers to provide workers with somewhere to eat and rest, shaded and protected from the weather. On remote and civil sites there is often nothing else. A crib room container is the standard answer and it is what inspectors expect to find.

Standard fitout

Insulation and lining throughout — this is the first thing people skimp on and the first thing crews complain about. Bench seating along the walls with tables. A kitchenette bench with sink and space for an urn, microwave and fridge. LED lighting, power outlets, windows for light and ventilation, and air conditioning in most builds.

Size the seating honestly

A 20ft crib room comfortably seats a modest crew. If you are running a larger workforce, either specify a 40ft or accept staggered breaks. Fitting more seating into a 20ft than it really holds produces a room nobody uses.

Plan the services

Water supply and waste for the sink, and power for the appliances, both need arranging at your end. Sort this out before delivery rather than after.

Combine with ablutions

Many sites order a crib room and an ablution container together. Ask for a combined quote.
